Back To School

As the school year begins anew we see hundreds of thousands of children 6 to 24 go off to institutions of higher learning. The purpose is to acquire the academic and technical skills to become productive and successful citizens of society. Young, naïve and gullible they are on their own for the first time. Out from under the protection of family, they must now pick and choose friends, ideologies, and faith.

Many are immature, innocent and willing to listen and compromise. Satan uses this opportunity to season the truth with just enough falsehood that many young adults will accept it. Over a period of time things that were once sacred and dear become just another opinion. Hot topics such as gender, religion, abortion, sex and right and wrong become just “your” opinion.

Many teachers use their position and influence to advocate for sinful practices and acceptance of standards which were once considered abhorrent. That which was wrong has now become the new norm. These intelligent instructors have now:  For even though they knew God, they did not honor Him as God or give thanks, but they became futile in their speculations, and their foolish heart was darkened. Professing to be wise, they became fools, Rom 1:2-22(NASB)

Even the “Christian” institutions have become tainted by political and social pressure. Without compromise and acceptance many face financial lawsuits and economic impacts. So, instead of standing for what is right they succumb to the pressures and eventually you can’t tell the secular colleges from the Christian.

In Acts 19 Paul was at Ephesus and was teaching and baptizing people with the Holy Ghost. There arose a group of some who rejected his message: Act 19:8  And he entered the synagogue and continued speaking out boldly for three months, reasoning and persuading them about the kingdom of God. (9) But when some were becoming hardened and disobedient, speaking evil of the Way before the people, he withdrew from them and took away the disciples, reasoning daily in the school of Tyrannus. (10) This took place for two years, so that all who lived in Asia heard the word of the Lord, both Jews and Greeks.

Paul took those who were being influenced and taught them for two years in the school of Tyrannus. Solomon said in Proverbs 3:13  How blessed is the man who finds wisdom and the man who gains understanding. It is important where we send our children to school and more than that, it is important that they are spiritually equipped to face the demonic battles that lie ahead.

We have an obligation to teach and train our children before we send them out:

  • Deu 6:7  "You shall teach them diligently to your sons and shall talk of them when you sit in your house and when you walk by the way and when you lie down and when you rise up.

  • Pro 22:6  Train up a child in the way he should go, Even when he is old he will not depart from it.

  • Eph 6:4  Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord

This week pray for our children. They are the future of the community, the nation and the church. We must pray a hedge of protection around them so they can see the subtle deceptions Satan wages against them.

For 180 days a year we send our children and grandchildren to school. For most it means public school. For some with the financial means or the academic background the opportunity is there for private or home school. For most parents, they don’t give it a second thought about placing their children into the hands of teachers each day. Most of our local teachers are godly and have faith-based morals and ethics. Some are not and have nefarious underlying spiritual relationships with the spiritual world.

Federal law protects all individuals from discrimination based on race, creed, religion or sex.  There are some godly Christian teachers in the public school who take their responsibilities very seriously concerning the values our children are taught. On the other hand, Satan is trying discreetly infiltrate our children’s minds and cause them to question everything they are taught. This is a spiritual battle for the minds and souls of our children.  Paul tells us repeatedly throughout the Word to pray:

  • 2Co 10:4  For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds (5)  Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;

  • Eph 6:12  For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

  • 1Th 5:17  Pray without ceasing.

We must stand on the Word believing that God will put Christian teachers in the classrooms. We must stand against the perverse ideologies that are invading the classrooms and libraries. When teachers are found to be indoctrinating our children we must stand and when Christian teachers are discriminated against, we must stand with them.

Think on this:

  • 5 days a week  - 7 hours a day – 35 hours each week

  • Teachers have the minds of our children in their hands

  • The mind of a child is malleable and like a sponge

  • They parrot what they are taught

As the new school year begins it is imperative to pray and lift up our teachers, instructors, professors and other academic influencers. We must cover our “assets” with prayer and supplications daily to ensure the future of our families, our community, our nation and above all our eternal security.
